The unions have done a lot for this country, haven’t they?

    • Anonymous says:

      Those are City workers BTW….
and yes the unions have done a lot for the working people of this country and in a way, the non-union white collar types who work in a linear relationship with them. As I point out to young assistant project managers, they can thank the unions for their benefit package and salary which will closely be aligned with a trademan (who also has 4 years of mandatory school before he earns a journeymans card). That is the reality in my business sector. Far too many people miss that point exactly. Business does nothing for the working person that they do not have to do to remain competitive. You get what you pay for. Good people will not work on the cheap.

        • The Free Market says:

Precisely. I mean, what a bunch of communist bullshit, these laborers banding together and negotiating the price of their services. Don’t they know the rules of supply and demand don’t apply to them because they are lower class citizens? Only corporations and private business owners should be able to do that. I mean did they really think the American Dream applies to them?

Next thing you know these fucking peasants will want to own their own land. For fuck sake, can you imagine?

          • Fixed it for you says:

Precisely. I mean, what a bunch of communist bullshit, these laborers banding together and threatening to cut off their services until they are paid exorbinant amounts. Don’t they know that according to the rules of supply and demand doing this type of shakedown causes the employers to hire fewer workers since the cost is so high? Only union workers should receive these benefits, because screw the regular guy who wants to work an honest day and receive an honest pay when we can get fat by excluding him from the labor market. I mean did they really think the American Dream applies to them?

Next thing you know these fucking peasants will want to own their own land. For fuck sake, can you imagine? That is why we seek to keep them out and have the land all to ourselves.

The examiner is fabricating this or there would be other sources stating this. The neo cons are using it as a primary source. Shows how far these Sheeple go to educate themselves.

Yet again, you demonstrate your ignorance. You must not have even read the article because it shines the light on your precious left-wing unions. If you would have read it, you’d have found that it was a commentary on another article that presented the union excesses.

Try reading the article, and go to the original source, troll.

“Um, do a search on the topic, there is NOTHING but blogs referring to the one Examiner article.”

You’ve repeatedly demonstrated your complete ignorance in finding sources on this site, and we’re all convinced that your research skill are nil. A quick search on the internet found a discussion on the topic from Investor’s Business Daily. For someone who constantly harps on research, you sure don’t know anything about it.

That’s the most difficult part for dishonest researchers – sometimes you find something that you don’t want to see. However, Vertigo, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.

          • Anonymous says:

The wage figures in the original article have been taken from tax records obtained by the New York Times. All you have to do is actually read the articles. That’s the tough part about debate, when you remove ad hominems, you actually have to deal with the issues.

Vert – are you ready to admit that you were blatantly lying about the Examiner?

That was friggin’ priceless. Same type of thing at our company Christmas party this year – the limo transporting people from the hotel to the party got stuck, and the tow truck that came to get it out slammed into a Suburban parked next to it… awesome.

  4. Henry says:

Obviously, these DSNY sanitation workers must have been non-union to be this unskilled in pulling a stuck vehicle out. If the payloader operator had any skill at all, he wouldn’t even need a wrecker. He could have used his bucket to leverage himself out provided he didn’t sit and spin. These sanitation workers just don’t care and don’t know how to drive. Hmm…..

    • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

Thank you for acknowledging there are details deliberately being left out here, Henry. Assumptions being made such as those specific workers were sanitation workers.. or even city workers. For all we know, they were independent contractors who have never used their equipment for anything else than installing drain tile. I too questioned the need to use a tow to get that backhoe out. (Before you get on that one, the scoop is detachable and there is a backhoe that probably has always been on it. )

This is a prime example of why source is so important.. The Examiner is a tabloid source that doesn’t fact check… just publishes whatever it feels like. Youtube has no fact checking at all, that film may have come from Sweden for all we know.

      • Anonymous says:

“The Examiner is a tabloid source that doesn’t fact check… just publishes whatever it feels like.”

Good point, Vert. Any time a source questions your precious left wing unions, we must discount them and engage in wild speculation instead. The life of a left wing hack troll is fascinating.

        • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

Um, I hardly support unions. I belonged to the Teamsters for 5 years at one point, was assured I had my membership vested and would always be an inactive member in good standing. 2 years later I recieved a letter saying if I didn’t pay back dues I would lose it. I was screwed by them, not my management.

The company I worked for has since lowered starting wages to minimum wage, hired Hmong and Bosnians who cannot even speak the language and who are willing to work for min. wage without benefits.

So much for the power of unions. I would rather be a scab than belong to an open shop union state.

PS, so you think the Examiner is a good source? Get real. You get better info from the National Enquirer. Try validating the source instead of attacking me, you are the troll.

          • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

OK, I give, my only real contact with the HP has been to do my own fact checking on articles presented, and so far all of the HP articles pass the “Initial Search” test of having corroborative sources. I have never actually perused the site itself as it would be a waste of my time. I don’t focus on one source to validate my points.

I just checked, and it IS mostly commentary, sprinkled with a few very good news articles. It does show a clear bias, contrary to what I have seen. I will challenge the HP in the future, as much as I challenge the Examiner which consistently shows bad information.

PS, just because a source shows bias doesn’t mean the information is wrong, it just means they don’t present both sides of an issue which is manipulative.

PPS, that doesn’t change the fact you are the troll. You don’t contribute ANYTHING to the site other than to be an annoying pest. Perhaps you can start contributing, it would be a refreshing change.

” just because a source shows bias doesn’t mean the information is wrong, it just means they don’t present both sides of an issue which is manipulative.”

That’s an interesting comment coming from the troll whose only contribution (aside from copying and pasting DNC talking points) is to attack other people’s sources for being biased. Actually try contributing something other than personal attacks and source attacks. It would be a welcome change, troll.

You don’t even look at what I post let alone respond to it in a constructive manner.

I challenge sources because until you have a solid foundation of facts, you cannot have a meaningful discussion. If you have a flakey source, the issue is dead in the water before you even start.

          • Anonymous says:

If by “references” you mean ad hominems, you’re absolutely correct. I’ve read through your posts, and the only consistent thing is personal attacks. “Thoughtful analysis” is usually done by finding a DNC press release and using ctrl+C, ctrl+V, apparently.

“I challenge sources because until you have a solid foundation of facts, you cannot have a meaningful discussion. ”

Are you sure it’s not because it’s much easier to ignore valid points that undermine your fragile argument by attacking the source rather than addressing the issues? You’re the ad hominem king, troll

“If you have a flakey source, the issue is dead in the water before you even start.”

Yet – you often quote the left wing blog called the Huffington Post – how flaky is that? Even your blatant lie that it’s a conservative website doesn’t make it a credible source. We’re not the fools you take us for, troll.

          • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

Puleeze, Troll anon…… that was entirely an ad hominem attack. How does what ANYTHING you put in that post change the validity of anything I said….

You have to fact find to invalidate me. I do that, why don’t you?

          • Anonymous says:

Don’t let my criticisms stop y0u from visiting the “conservative” Huffington Post opinion blog, though.

Vert: “I too questioned the need to use a tow to get that backhoe out. (Before you get on that one, the scoop is detachable and there is a backhoe that probably has always been on it. )
Backhoe? Try payloader. I am unaware of a backhoe attachment for a payloader. If so, it would be a little unwieldy and of little value. The operator likely could have rotated his bucket (not arms) fully downwards, dropped his arms so the bucket was on the ground and rotate his bucket upwards, thus pushing him backwards while backing out.

  5. Henry says:

NYC better get their labor problems fixed. The sun is cycling into a period of less activity. It’ll be a little colder for awhile and more snow for skilled labor to move.

    • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

So, whats your point Henry, there is no global warming? I think common knowledge science contradicts this…

“The northern hemisphere is experiencing its fourth consecutive cold winter. The current winter is one of the coldest for a hundred years or more. For cold winters to provide positive feedback, snow cover has to survive from one winter to the next so that snow’s higher albedo relative to bare rock will reflect sunlight into space, causing cooler summers.” (quote from Henry’s less than perfect, although has some pretty impressive research site)

The truth is, the snow is NOT hanging on. Major sections of the antarctic ice shelf have broken off,

      http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/cracking-up-ice-turning-to-water-glaciers-on-the-move–and-a-planet-in-peril-421143.html

and arctic ice has been consistently melting off from year to year.

      http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/

Your article, if connected somehow to reality, reflects to a very different world than what is happening. According to your article, we are entering into another “Little Ice Age”, where things are cooler. To the contrary of the implications of your article, the planet is warming up.

This winter IS a bit harsher than most, but its an El Nina year, which happens as a result of many variables occuring within our own atmosphere last year resulting in the oceans currants not absorbing as much heat… not lower sunspots happening now.

      • Henry says:

You are right, Vert. My error. Algore said, “Let there be global warming.” And it was so.

        • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

Did I say global warming? NO. The facts are in, the climate is changing, and its not getting cooler the way your flakey sources say. Thats not the same as the empty rhetorical “Global Warming” you use.

As much as you want to cling to partisan rhetoric, its all empty. Facts speak for themselves. The ice shelves in antarctica are breaking up, and the glaciers are melting in a manner that hasn’t happened since the paleozoic era. Our entire planet depends on these remaining consistant or else there will be major climactic adjustments that the planet will not be able to rectify in under millenia. The ice masses serve to buffer, and keep the temperatures cooler.

The reality, is when you have too much energy trapped in the atmosphere, the climate starts to swing more extremely. We will have more hurricanes, but we will also have more blizzards. To call this “Warming” is a misnomer.

When you have major climactic shifts, entire species go extinct (many already have) and the food web becomes severely disturbed which leads to global ecological collapse. We have already had more species go extinct than when the Dinosours were wiped out.

Will the planet recover from this? Sure, but our species probably won’t, and its likely the next major evolutionary step will be a world dominated by evolved cockroaches and mosquito’s.

You don’t care though, you will be dead so damned be all our children and their children.

          • Gaia says:

This Warmist religion is quite an interesting one. They’re not very kind to non-believers.

          • Henry says:

Uhmm…Vert….you did say “global warming”. That would be a yes.

          • Henry says:

P.S. Flakey sources now supposedly consists of the New York Times. I’ll go along with that.

Vert seemingly has pretty high standards for sources when they point out information contrary to his worldview.

          • Anonymous says:

Seems to be a running theme with him, eh Henry?

          • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

LOL, I did NOT say global warming, I said climate change, and yes, it IS happening. You use the Global warming political football all you want, but thats all it is; a politicial football you people use to stigmatize Gore with. It gets tiring, frankly. Gore is not much better than sliced bread.

I did not say ALL your sources are flakey, but you DO come up with some doozies!! NY times is a good one, and I was tempted to point out some of the paragraphs in it that sepecify climate change that IS happening.

As much as you lamely attempt to villify those who disagree with you, in black and white terms, the world isn’t that way. You need to adjust your rose colored glasses to see the entire picture, not just those parts that veriffy your opinion.

          • Henry says:

“Climate change” is the new mantra the global warming conspiracists have embraced. It provides cover for them and provides some separation from their erronous conclusions about global warming. They get rather defensive when global warming is now discussed. Note Vert, for example.

Who can argue there isn’t climate change? The UK has so far had the coldest winter in 327 years of recorded tempuratures. Prior to temperature records, the climate in the British isles was known to be warmer. So, arguably they have so far had the coldest winter in about a thousand years. That is climate change. Global warming is largely a lie.

          • Lie Detector says:

Vert said: “Did I say global warming? NO.”

Caught lying, Vert brings on the “humor”: “LOL, I did NOT say global warming”

A few posts up, Vert said: “So, whats your point Henry, there is no global warming? I think common knowledge science contradicts this…”

Another example of Vertigo’s “contributions” to this site. Pathetic.

          • Avatar of Bryan Bryan says:

There is a huge difference between climate and weather.

          • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

Thank you Bryan for finally agreeing this is all a semantics game.

You can call it anything you want, but the facts are in, and something severe is happening, and pretty soon the climate… yes the slow to react, slow to change climate…. is going to start doing nasty things. It already has, I can start listing…

” Category 5 storms are the most catastrophic hurricanes that can form, and occur only about once every three years on average in the Atlantic basin. Only four times — in the 1960, 1961, 2005 and 2007 hurricane seasons — have multiple Category 5 hurricanes formed. Only in 2005 have more than two Category 5 storms formed, and only in 2007 has more than one made landfall at Category 5 strength.[1]” http://www.sciencedaily.com/articles/l/list_of_category_5_atlantic_hurricanes.htm

Yes, after the industrial age when we started pumping carbon and heat into the atmosphere, we went from one class 5 hurricane every 3 years to over 3 class 5 hurricanes in one year. In 1960, 1961, 2005, and 2007. ===We had 5 in 2007. (I don’t know how to emphasize this more, its NOT CLIMACTIC VARIATION)

Hurricanes, similar to their brother tornado’s, are part of natures cooling system. They pull hot air up from the surface and send it to be cooled in the stratosphere. When we have increased tornado/ hurricane activity, we have a problem.

There is a reason we have had three, 500 year floods in the RRVally in the last 10 years; and this year is going to be as bad as 1997; lets make that 4.

There is a reason MOST of the glaciers have melted.

There is a reason we have had a mass extinction larger than the dinosaurs.

Whats the only thing thats changed? No its not the lack of sunspots which would lead us to much COLDER weather.. (truth is, if we had normal solar input, we would be worse and that was a blessing). the Rush Limbaugh and Hannity’s bloviating hasn’t been the reason although its similar to cattle farts….

The only thing that has changed is humans have removed densely stored energy from deep within the earths crust and released it into the atmosphere. Humans have razed natures ability to recapture and restore that energy.

Play your word games all you want.. Semantics are only a manipulation of vowels and consonants; they don’t change facts. It doesn’t matter WHAT Algore (or me) calls it. The climate is changing and its not only going to be warmer, yes….. profoundly cooler at times.

We are pumping huge amounts of energy into the atmosphere along with gasses that capture that energy and holds it where it will have the largest impact .

Play your semantics games, if we are going to mitigate it before it profoundly impacts OUR world, we need to get past that point and try to stop the insanity….

Thats not the conservative way, though, is it. Wait until you visibly see the change…. and make as much money as you can while you can.

Climate change isn’t the same as global (did I mention hurrcanes and tornado’s)warming. There may be profound COOLING, (yes, I mean Ice Age) especially if we have an ocean current occlusion which leads to a collapse of the planets cooling/heating system Profound warming causes this and it has happened in the past. Its proven scientific fact, and it is caused by too much carbon in the atmosphere.

Play your word games, and attack Algore all you want. Its just semantics, and as much as you desire to discredit me, facts are not going to change.

  6. Another heartwarming story about how unions help the little guy says:

    “These garbage men really stink.

Selfish Sanitation Department bosses from the snow-slammed outer boroughs ordered their drivers to snarl the blizzard cleanup to protest budget cuts — a disastrous move that turned streets into a minefield for emergency-services vehicles, The Post has learned.

Miles of roads stretching from as north as Whitestone, Queens, to the south shore of Staten Island still remained treacherously unplowed last night because of the shameless job action, several sources and a city lawmaker said, which was over a raft of demotions, attrition and budget cuts.

“They sent a message to the rest of the city that these particular labor issues are more important,” said City Councilman Dan Halloran (R-Queens), who was visited yesterday by a group of guilt-ridden sanitation workers who confessed the shameless plot. ”

Guess it wasn’t so easy to find a legitimate source for that specious tabloid assertions.

I agree Anon, it IS getting tiriing. Lets raise the standard to having legitimate news sources so we can actually discuss the issues. You know the first thing I will check is the source. Then I fact check.

I cannot disprove a fictional assertion… Its the person who makes an assertions job to prove its true. The minimum I have to do is show its a flakey source… and boy, was THAT a flakey source

        • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

If it was on the nightly news, then its archived and you can give me a link. The assertion that your source was flakey was validated. I even gave a full front page that illustraded the point that this is the kind of rag that fabricates stories. Thats all I needed to do, you need to come up with a better source, one that does fact checking,. or just admit its a fabricated story.

PS, what assertion did I make? This is all about a flakey news story from a flakey source. I fullfilled my burdon of proofIts up to the person who submitted it to prove its NOT a flakey source. I du I know Hannity, limbaugh, and you are willing to accept anything, but thats not the way of the world.

I can accept the MY Times, although that would sometimes be AP which I will dig to find the original source.. One the source is found to be good, then we can discuss the issues.

I am open to any good source that disagree’s with my view.. in fact I welcome the opportunity to have intelligent conversation instead of your ad hominem personal attacks. Perhaps you should look a little deeper than Hannity, or the GOP webpages for your sources.

LOOL… Did I say I didn’t like what it said? I wouldn’t doubt if the basic assertion is true, that there is a labor issue with snow removal..

You may enjoy the dstorted stories tabloid papers give, and Hanity et al may exclusively use them to validate your distorted view of the world, but I don’t accept them. I use FACTS, you know what they are… things that are presented by news sources that do FACT CHECKING. By having actual FACTS, we can explore societies problems and find solutions.

By following tabloid articles that validate your opinion of Limbaugh, all you do is show profound ignorance and lack of desire to uncover the TRUTH….

You know what that is, don’t you? Oh, I forgot, you let Savage educate you, so who cares about TRUTH.

          • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

ps, if those news sources actually did cover this with FACTS, then it should be easy for you to find. It is your burdon of proof, and all you have used is a highly fictionalized tabloid to validate it. Show us the CNN report, everything broadcast can be found and pasted here in a link. Use that instead of a tabloid source, you should have started with that in the first place and we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

          • Anonymous says:

You didn’t read it, did you Vert? I suppose it must be difficult having such a fragile belief system that anything contrary to the house of cards that you’ve constructed would hurt you so.

New link saying essentially the same thing at the bottom of the page. When can the New York post and I expect our apology for your lies and slander?

        • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

LOL, just read that review again. I have to say, Henry, when you screw up good, you screw up GOOD.

“– happened to be played by the Marquise de Belbeuf, moneyed, newly divorced and the lover of the mostly naked mummy. This was Salome’s first appearance as a lesbian femme fatale, having evolved, in Bentley’s retelling, from Maud Allan’s vaudeville belly dancer to Mata Hari’s voluptuous temptress to Rubinstein’s Russian Jewish flapper.

LOL, Russian Jewish Flapper… I may go buy that book!

          • Henry says:

Sounds kind of trashy and tabloid. Oh, look. It was printed from the accepted source, the New York Times. Who cares if it is a review of fiction? It is still printed trash. Who screwed up? I think you are confused.

Yes, these unions and their anti-patriotic actions must be stopped, by force if necessary. We must preserve the dignity of the Glorious State Corporation. The State Corporation only wants what is best for the Motherland. The State Corporation will take care of you, and only has your best interests at heart, comrades. Believe. Have faith, brothers and sisters.

Now is the time for patriotism, comrades! You, the worker must make sacrifices to ensure that the Glory of the State Corporation is upheld. The Corporation has made many sacrifies for you in the past; the Executives (Praise!) and their selfless contributions have protected your freedom and now it is your turn to repay them, comrade.

The Glorious State Corporation asks you now to remain vigilant. If you have spare funds, give them selflessly to the State Corporation. They will create more jobs, have faith! If you can only afford to feed your family 6 days a week, then fast on the weekends and donate a day’s wages for the Glory of the State Corporation. The Corporation will protect you and keep you! And more importantly, now is the time to free the State Glorious Corporation from the tyranny of regulation. The State Corporation only has your best interests in mind. It is only the deviants among you, the selfish workers who wants to take food from the mouths of the Honorable Executives (praise!) who must be regulated, to prevent them from gathering and forming these unholy Unions. Bring your justice swiftly upon them, for the Glorious State Corporation must be protected at all costs.

Although I think this is a little “Conspiracy theoryesque”, it wouldn’t surpise me if it does happen. When one gets a job providing insurance, they have us sign forms stating they can do anything they want to provide insurance.. and it makes sense they would insure themselves against the expense of your passing on.

Thanks for giviing a link, In the News!

PS, Could you please tell me how you can link hypertext to an article? I would find that very useful too.

      • In the News says:

There is nothing “Conspiracy theory-esque” about it. It’s happening. MILLIONS of policies are sold every year. This is what happens when you de-regulate the financial industry and let them print their own money. BOTH parties are guilty of this.

So let me get this straight: at The Corner Bar blog, whenever someone points out something hypocritical or a double-standard, we shout “Hi Grootch!”

Is that Irish or Welsch or something? Google translate didn’t find anything.

    • Avatar of Vertigo Vertigo says:

If I were Grootch, I would be flattered.. he has become Corner Bar legend! As long as people remind us of him, he is immortal……..

      VIVA LE GROOTCH!

BTW: This thread really took a wrong turn in Albequerque,,,only here can a discussion on a dumbass front end loader operator swerve into the traffic of global warming…then 10 or more posts on the Rotarian….outstanding work guys…really…it is truly part of charm…a swerving group..
        .got our swerve on!

    • billybones says:

      I dont get it,
Grootch was one of the original Group from hell members, an OG on the blog here. He has been somewhat conspicuous in his absence, but occasionally posts under other monickers, or at least people suspect he does. Generally a short pointed jab at republicans….ergo the “Hi Grootch”
when he was a regular he was well known for his terse dismissal of any idea or thought that he felt was representative of “knuckle dragging republicans”. They were often crude and obscenity laden. Then out of nowhere, he would engage in intellectual discourse. He is, as vert states below…something of a Corner Bar Legend…or urban legend perhaps

    Henry, anonymous,

So how do you propose we should deal with Unions?

Be damn glad they are there, otherwise you all would be working for minimum wage with no benefits to speak of….unless you owned the company.

      “Henry, anonymous,

So how do you propose we should deal with Unions?

Give them each a bottle of booze, a 4WD limo with tire chains, and a crowd of admirers lining the garbage strewn boulevards celebrating their existence.

      • Anonymous says:

        Could you be more serious?

        • Anonymous says:

          “Could you be more serious?”

No. The absurdity of the real situation is overwhelming and ridiculous. Please give me some time to recoup.

        • Henry says:

The unions don’t have to be dealt with. Companies need to employ people that work and let people go that don’t work. If the people that don’t work threaten property or the people that want to work, then hire Pinkerton Agency to protect the workers and property from the non-workers.
