Romney “I’m Middle Class” & “I’m Unemployed” How about “I’m rich and out of touch”?

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he was seeking better tax policies for people in the middle class like himself.

“I think it’s a real problem when you have half of Americans — almost half of Americans that are not paying income tax,” the candidate told a group of supporters at a town hall event in Florida. “My own view with regards to tax policy is that we ought to provide help to the people that have been hurt most by the Obama economy, and that’s the middle class.”

“It’s not those at the low end and it’s certainly not for those at the very high end. It’s for the great middle class, the 80 to 90 percent of us in this country.”

Earlier at the same event, he had promised not to pander or be “phony.”

In June, Romney told another group of unemployed Floridians that he was “also unemployed.”

The former Massachusetts governor has a net worth estimated at up to $250 million. Earlier this month, a supporter in Tampa thanked him for creating jobs by quadrupling the size of his $12 million California beachfront mansion.

Corner Bar Salutes a Hero: Sgt. Dakota Meyer…Medal of Honor Recipient

A Huge shout out to Sgt. Dakota Meyer.

President Barack Obama bestowed the Medal of Honor on Thursday to a former Marine who in 2009 made five death-defying forays into a “killing zone” in Afghanistan’s Ganjgal Valley to save three dozen American and Afghan troops.

A full moon was drenching the mountains in ghostly light as some 60 Afghan soldiers, 20 border police officers, 13 Marine and U.S. Army trainers and I set out for Ganjgal at 3 a.m. from the U.S. base in the Shakani District,” McClatchy national security reporter Jonathan Landay, who was embedded with the unit at the time, reported in September 2009.

The team was ambushed and came under sustained Taliban fire and rocket attack. However, U.S. commanders repeatedly denied the request to unleash artillery rounds and provide air cover, under rules of engagement then recently put in place to reduce civilian casualties.

“U.S. commanders, citing new rules to avoid civilian casualties, rejected repeated calls to unleash artillery rounds at attackers dug into the slopes and tree lines—despite being told repeatedly that they weren’t near the village,” Landay reported. “We waited more than an hour for U.S. helicopters to arrive, despite earlier assurances that air cover would be five minutes away.”

By the time helicopters arrived, four U.S. Marines had been killed, as well as eight Afghan troops and the U.S. Marine commander’s Afghan interpreter. Meyer risked his life to retrieve their bodies.

“Over the course of a six-hour fire-fight, without regard for his own personal safety, Meyer entered the kill zone five separate times to evacuate the wounded, provide essential aid and, ultimately, saved the lives of 13 U.S. Marines and soldiers in addition to 23 Afghan soldiers,” the Marine Corps wrote in a summary of Meyer’s heroic actions meriting the citation. “Meyer personally killed at least eight Taliban insurgents, while providing cover for his team to fight their way out and escape certain death.”

From Charlie B: Proof that Obamacare is Working

Recent data provided by the nation’s largest health insurance companies reveals that a provision of the Affordable Care Act – or Obamacare – is bringing big numbers of the uninsured into the health care insurance system.

And they are precisely the uninsured that we want– the young people who tend not to get sick.

The provision of the law that permits young adults under 26, long the largest uninsured demographic in the country, to remain on their parents’ health insurance program resulted in at least 600,000 newly insured Americans during the first quarter of 2011.

Wellpoint, the nation’s largest publicly traded health insurer with some 34 million customers, reports adding 280,000 new members in the first three months of 2011.

Add in the results of some of the other large health insurers including Aetna, who added just short of 100,000 newly insured to their customer base, Kaiser Permanente’s additional 90,000, and Highmark’s 72,000 new customers, and we begin to sense our health insurance pools are filling up with some badly needed young blood.

The Health & Human Services Department had estimated that the changes in the law would result in about 1.2 million new enrollees in 2011. However, according to Aaron Smith, the executive director of a Washington based non-profit that advocates for the young, it now looks as if that number will be exceeded.

NY Weiner district goes Republican

The seat formerly held by the weiner wagging Anthony Weiner has been won by a republican.  He’d better make sure to use lysol on the seat.

Dems spin: “It’s a very difficult district for Democrats,” said Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, noting its Democratic margins there tend to be the second lowest of all the districts in New York City.

She fails to mention that Democrats have held the seat since March 1923.

Longshoremen resort to violence in Longview Washinton port dispute

Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha. Six guards were held hostage for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said. No one was hurt, and nobody has been arrested. Most of the protesters returned to their union hall after cutting brake lines and spilling grain from car at the EGT terminal, Duscha said. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes it has the right to work at the facility, but the company has hired a contractor that’s staffing a workforce of other union laborers.

A strike, picketing, protesting, even blocking the tracks with your bodies…ok.

Taking hostages, threatening people?   That’s thuggery, and I’m calling the longshoremen out as a bunch of cowardly thugs in this instance.

More Violent Rhetoric: Vido Game “Tea Party Zombies Must Die”

Yeah…crappy graphics and an even crappier concept.  Really? And people want to say it’s just the right wing that has a lunatic fringe? I wonder, where is the outrage from the liberals? Good lord, if this was tageting lefties they would be peeing themselves and screaming how terrible this is.

More Violent Rhetoric

Ok, one wonders, will the violent rhetoric ever tone down? Crosshairs, Lock and Load, after the Giffords shooting, dems and libs were all over pointing to violent imagery used by Republicans and Tea party members. Not much air is given to the fact that the left uses the same imagery.  The most recent example is  Jimmy Hoffa…

President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong,” Hoffa added.

Now we all know that “take them out” is slang for removing someone through violence, or killing someone.  Now i’m not silly enough to say that is what he meant, any more than Sarah Palin was really saying shoot someone…but maybe, just maybe, it’s time to change the rhetoric a bit.

Evidence of Coverup in Botched ATF Operation

Just hours after the death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, federal officials tried to cover up evidence that the gun that killed Terry was one the government intentionally helped sell to the Mexican cartels in a weapons trafficking program known as Operation Fast and Furious.

The revelation comes just days after a huge shake-up of government officials who oversaw the failed anti-gun trafficking program and Congress renewed its demand for more answers.

Also late Thursday, Sen. Charles Grassley’s office revealed that 21 more Fast and Furious guns have been found at violent crime scenes in Mexico. That is up from 11 the agency admitted just last month
